Trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma

On the 1st of August, 2022 I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee.  The operation went well but the anesthesia and pain meds caused my bladder to shut down and I couldn't pee for a couple of weeks.   In an effort to get my bladder working again I went off my pain meds which greatly increased the pain involved with healing from this surgery.  However, by October I was much improved and ready to hit the road again.  We decided to go to Broken Bow, OK which has a very nice state park.  We left on Oct 20 in the RV and headed to a campground on Hugo Lake in Oklahoma.  On Oct 21 we explored the town of Hugo and the area surrounding the lake on the scooter.  On Oct 22 we drove the scooter to Broken Bow and explored the area around Beavers Bend State Park.  We stopped for lunch at the Buffalo Grill in Hochatown.  We stayed one more day at the campground and headed back on home on Oct 24.

2022 Summer Trip

On July 3 we left home in the RV headed for Lake Powell and other sites in the west.  The first night we stopped at the Sam's Club in Amarillo.  The second night we spent at the campground at Abiquiu Reservoir in New Mexico.  We also took a little scooter ride around Abiquiu lake which was extremely low due to the ongoing drought.

On July 5 we drove to a rest area south of Moab where we spent the night.  On July 6 we drove to Nuns Park Campground in Provo Canyon where we stayed for 2 nights.  We used that time to ride our bikes on the Provo Canyon bike trail up to Vivian Park.  We also took the scooter on the Alpine Loop over to Granite Flats in American Fork Canyon and up the Squaw Peak trail in Provo Canyon.

On July 8 we drove up to Midway, UT for a Zollinger family reunion.  We stayed the night at Pine Creek Campground.  In the afternoon there was a family gathering at a pavilion in Charleston where we had a chance to greet all the families of Liz's brothers and sisters.  That night we went to a performance of the "Sound of Music" at an outdoor theater.  The next morning we all gathered at Justin Englebright's house in Midway for an auction of items that everyone had brought for that purpose.  It was great to see all the siblings and nieces and nephews together again.  Almost every family was represented including Bryan, Alan, Anna Maria and Jim,  Liz and Lee, Barbara and Frank, Paul, Jacob and Kimberly, and Thales and Bonnie.

July 9 we drove to Price, UT where we stayed the night.  The next day we drove down to Bullfrog Marina where we met up with the Keeton family for a week on the houseboat at Lake Powell.  We stayed down river on the Escalante and had a great time exploring, water skiing, hiking, and playing in the sand. The lake was so low this year that Gregory Natural Bridge in Fiftymile Canyon was uncovered and we could actually take the boat underneath the bridge.  This bridge has been under water since 1969.

On July 17 we left Lake Powell and spent 2 nights at Devil's Canyon Campground just outside of Blanding, UT.  We spent our day there on the scooter exploring the local mountain range on the forest roads.  On July 19 we drove to Mesa Verde National Park where we staying for a couple of nights at Morfield Campground.  On July 20 we explored the park and visited all the Indian ruins that were open to see.

On Julty 21 we drove up to Purgatory Resort in Colorado where we stayed the night.  That day we took the Scooter up to Silverton, CO which is a trip we have always wanted to take.  It was a cool little mining town and tourist destination and we really enjoyed the beauty of the drive.

On July 22 we headed home arriving on July 23.  Most of this trip was a revisit to places we had been before including the stops in Utah, Lake Powell and Mesa Verde.  However, the trip to Silverton was new for us and something we have always wanted to do.

Trip to Bentonville

We heard about Crystal Bridges Museum from our friend Lani Graves.  This is a museum in Bentonville Arkansas near the headquarters of Walmart.  The museum was built under the direction of Alice Walton, one of the heirs of the Walmart fortune.  It had a great reputation and Liz really wanted to see it so we set up a trip to do that.  We took the motorhome and scooter and left on May 14th driving to Fort Smith the first night.

The next day we drove the motorhome further up to Beaver Lake near Bentonville, Arkansas, where we stayed at Horseshoe Bend Campground for 3 nights.  On May 16 we boarded the scooter and drove to the Crystal Bridges Museum where we spent the day going through the museum and exploring the trails around the property.  Below are some of our favorite museum displays.

Our favorite item on display was a picture of a man that was looking back at you.... and his eyes would periodically move back and forth!  On the way back to the campground we stopped in Bentonville at the original Walton's (Walmart) store and toured the building.  It contained a replica of Sam Walton's original office in the store....very interesting.

On May 17 we drove the RV back to the Crystal Bridges Museum and unloaded the bikes so we could bike the trails around the museum.  The trails are beautiful and quite extensive and have unique outdoor sculptures along the paths.

On May 18 we left Horseshoe Bend Campground and headed back to Texas where we stayed the night at Pat Mayse Lake.  We then drove home the next day.  This was a very interesting trip that is not too far from home.....I think we'll do it again somethime.

Easter Holiday

On Friday, April 15th all of the Texas clan (Topher Daytons, Keetons, McLaughlins) came to our house to celebrate the Easter holiday.  We met at a new indoor water park called The Cove in Little Elm.  This place was amazing and the kids loved it.

On the way home from the water park we stopped to eat at Hat Creek Burger Company where the kids got to play some more.  On Saturday morning we took the grandkids for scooter rides and did some outdoor walking on the Roadrunner trail near our house.

That evening we all gathered in the dining room for a family dinner together.

On Sunday morning we did an Easter egg hunt with each grandchild getting a room in the house.  We had plenty of excitement trying to find all the eggs.

Sunday afternoon the families had to pack up and return home to get ready for another week.  We had a great time and made some wonderful Easter memories with everyone that was there.
