Padre Island National Seashore

We have been to Padre Island a couple of times in the past, but never with the grandkids.  We decided it was time we fix that situation, so we planned a trip to Padre with the San Antonio Dayton's and Keeton's .  We left on Thursday, May 10th for San Antonio and stayed overnight at the Keetons.  On Friday we headed to Padre Island with Akston, Reayen, and Elynn on aboard.  We found a campsite near the beach and set up camp.

John and Kathryn arrived on Saturday morning and John and Akston immediately returned to Bulverde for Akston's baseball game.  Topher's family arrived Saturday afternoon including My, Denae and Beau.   We had a great time playing in the surf and sand.  On the beach were some conservationists that were part of a "turtle patrol".  They explained to the kids that they were collecting sea turtle eggs for safe keeping.  They take the eggs to incubators for hatching, then they bring the hatchlings to the beach for a "turtle run" where they release the baby turtles on the beach and let them crawl into the ocean to begin their lives.

That afternoon John and Akston returned and we celebrated Beau's 3rd birthday.  In the evening we built a campfire and roasted marshmallows....although the fire was almost too much because it was so hot and muggy.  The Keetons and Daytons spent the night in a near by Airbnb.  Sunday morning was Mother's Day and they all returned to our campsite to wish all the mothers a great day.  The Keetons headed for home that morning but the Topher Daytons stayed till the afternoon so we spent more time at the beach and went to the visitors center.  That evening Liz and I rode our bikes down the beach for a few miles...beautiful evening ride.

Next day we left Padre and headed up through Victoria to College Station where we stayed for the night on our way home.  On Tuesday we completed the trip home and washed off the sand and salt water from everything (the RV, the bikes, and ourselves).  Another enjoyable trip for the books!
